FAQ:

  • What geotechnical firms have worked for the Tribe previously?
  • If any, are the previously prepared geotechnical reports available and can be shared?
Previous geotechnical work was completed by Cast Architecture and Robinson Noble. That survey has been posted for all applicants to access. (NOTE: The Geotechnical Report prepared by Cast Architecture and Robinson Noble is available in the downloadable documents section.)
  • Will it be acceptable to perform one geotechnical study for all of the planned improvements or will areas for study be released piecewise?
One study for all of the planned improvements is preferred for the projects listed within the scope of work within the posted RFP.
  • Are any civil plans, site plans, or conceptual sketches available for the proposed improvements?
  • The location and sizing of the improvements are needed for addressing the 6th bullet in Scope of Work: Identification of any permitting needs related to geotechnical conditions
The final design and site plans will be completed after the geotechnical site evaluation, which will help us better understand the load-bearing capacity of the project areas, as well as determine the recommended materials to support long-term sustainability at each site.
Below is a list of approximate dimensions for each project included in the scope of work.

1. Installation of Roof Structure Over Fenced Area:

This project involves constructing a 25′ x 45′ roof structure over a partially paved and fenced area currently used for vehicle storage at the Little Boston Hatchery. The proposed structure is expected to be supported by approximately 6 to 8 vertical columns, with foundation depths anticipated to range from 6 to 30 feet. The fenced project area is located on Point Julia Beach, directly across the street from the Little Boston Hatchery.

2. Driveway Gate Reinstallation: This site is located directly in front of the Little Boston Hatchery. The project area is approximately 4′ x 4′, with an estimated concrete footing depth of about 3′-6′.

3. Removal and Replacement of Concrete Raceways: This work will take place directly behind the hatchery. Each raceway measures approximately 6 feet wide and 45 feet long. All replacement work must remain within the existing footprint, and no design modifications are anticipated.

4. Containment Pond Resurfacing and Erosion Backfill:
This site is located behind the hatchery facility. The area will require evaluation to determine the best resurfacing approach while minimizing ground disturbance. Recommendations from the geotechnical assessment will guide the appropriate method.

5. Installation of Foundation for Transfer Tank:
This site is located at the Tribal Community Garden Center. The project area is approximately 12′ x 12′. We are seeking recommendations on which foundation materials would best support long-term stability for the transfer tank without creating unanticipated impacts related to weight or load capacity on the embankment.

  • Will contracting be with the Tribe or another entity? Is a sample contract with the terms and conditions available and can be shared?
The contract for the projects listed in the scope of work will be issued directly by the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe. Contract template has been posted for all applicants to access.
