Last week, European Green Crab were identified in traps set north of Driftwood Keys in Races Cove and at the south end of Port Gamble Bay.  Please find the release issued by Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife (WDFW) HERE.

Staff in PGST’s Natural Resources have been working with both WDFW and Washington Sea Grant to monitor EGC on reservation at Point Julia and in nearby waters. We have not identified any European Green Crab at Point Julia and will continue our monthly monitoring efforts in the wetland area north of the boat ramp. Additionally, we have added extra days for monthly trapping efforts with WDFW staff in Races Cove and Port Gamble Bay. Now that EGC have been detected, we will be focusing our efforts on removing all crab in an effort to keep population numbers low.
