The Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe has updated and amended its Title 09 code concerning Motor Vehicles.

The changes prohibit parking and driving on the sidewalk and other pedestrian designated pathways throughout the reservation and PGST-owned lands. Specifically, it establishes that any “person who drives or operates a vehicle on a sidewalk or other pathway designated for pedestrians is guilty of a civil traffic violation [called ‘Careless Driving’]” under PGST Code 9.04.34.

This change was proposed, in part, because of concerns identified during the construction of the trail along Little Boston Road.

Tribal Council held a public hearing on this proposal on June 11, 2025. Many public comments were offered. Generally, commenters were supportive of the change, especially in terms of protecting children who use the sidewalks.

The amended code was adopted in late June 2025 and is currently in effect.
